Weeks after its China-exclusive launch as the Pura 90 Pro Max, Huawei has officially released the global version of its flagship as the Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max, beginning its journey outside China with Malaysia, then the Gulf and other regions.

The extra "S" in the name signals — as Huawei itself confirmed — a special version prepared for global markets: nearly the same hardware, but with important differences in software and memory options.

What stands out about the Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max

The most important difference from the original Chinese version is the operating system: the Pura 90s Pro Max runs EMUI 16 built on Android 16, rather than the fully standalone HarmonyOS of the Chinese model. That means the global version keeps a compatibility layer that can run Android APK files (installed manually) — a capability specialist reports expect to be removed in future updates starting with HarmonyOS 7. Even so, the phone still ships without official Google services (GMS) or the Google Play Store, relying on Huawei's AppGallery and the Celia assistant.

The standout positive: 5G returns to the global version after years in which Huawei phones outside China were limited to 4G because of US restrictions — along with eSIM support.

The display is a flat 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED at FHD+ (1308 × 2880 px) with 458 ppi, a variable 1–120Hz refresh rate, touch sampling up to 300Hz, wide P3 colour, and anti-reflective Kunlun Glass (cutting glare by roughly 70%).

For performance, the phone runs Huawei's Kirin 9030S — but unlike the Chinese version, which offers up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, the global version is limited to 12GB of RAM with 256GB or 512GB of storage, a cut some specialist observers criticised.

The camera system remains the core focus: a 50 MP main lens with LOFIC technology for wider dynamic range and a true variable aperture (F1.4–F4.0), with OIS and an RYYB colour array; a 40 MP ultrawide (F2.2); and a 200 MP telephoto with a large 1/1.28-inch sensor at F2.6, delivering true optical zoom up to 4x and digital zoom up to 100x, with advanced CIPA 7.0 stabilisation and near-optical-quality video at 20x zoom.

Huawei backs the set with its improved True-to-Colour Camera 2.0 (43% better colour accuracy and 34% wider range, per the company), while the front camera is a 13 MP wide lens.

The battery is 6000 mAh in most global markets (the officially rated capacity drops to about 5270 mAh in EU markets only because of local regulations, though the actual cell may be identical), with very fast 100W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, 18W wired reverse charging and wireless reverse charging too.

On durability, the phone carries IP68 and IP69 ratings, with a glass body and an aluminium side frame in an all-new flat design.

The fingerprint sensor is side-mounted (built into the power button) rather than under the display as in previous Huawei generations.

The phone launched officially in the UAE at AED 3,999 for the 12GB RAM / 512GB storage version, with launch offers including gifts worth up to AED 1,648 (HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5 earbuds and a year of Huawei Care+).

It also launched in Oman through authorised stores with similar gifts.

In Saudi Arabia and Egypt, official pricing had not been announced at the time of writing — the phone may arrive later as the regional rollout expands, or through parallel import.
