The Apple A19 is Apple's standard chip for 2025, powering the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e.

Fabricated by TSMC on the 3nm (N3P) process, its six-core CPU shares nearly the same design as the A19 Pro (the same custom Apple cores at up to 4.26 GHz), but with a smaller cache, less memory and one fewer GPU core.

The result: flagship-class single-core performance that beats even the A18 Pro, with excellent power efficiency and on-device AI features — in a chip aimed at phones priced below the Pro models.

Overview

The A19 succeeds the A18 and is one of the three chips in Apple Silicon's nineteenth generation (alongside the A19 Pro). Announced on 9 September 2025, it is Apple's "affordable flagship chip": the same core heart as the A19 Pro with measured trims (smaller cache, less RAM, one fewer GPU core) to differentiate the Pro models.

Its most important quality is that it makes no real compromise in single-core performance — what matters most for interface smoothness, app launches and games — making it faster than last year's flagship A18 Pro, with high power efficiency.

Benchmark performance

CPU

The A19 uses a six-core layout (two performance cores at up to 4.26 GHz plus four efficiency cores) with the same custom Apple cores as the A19 Pro, but a smaller cache — the main thing separating it from the Pro version. Against the A18 it delivers roughly 12% more single-core and 18% more multi-core performance. In practice its single-core performance nearly matches the A19 Pro and beats last year's flagship A18 Pro.

GPU

The A19 carries a five-core GPU (four cores in the iPhone 17e) on Apple's new architecture, with Neural Accelerators built into every core to speed up AI tasks and games. Graphics performance sits below the six-core A19 Pro, but improves roughly 33% over the A18 and easily handles demanding games and everyday use. The gap between the five- and four-core versions is small and goes unnoticed by most users in real-world use.

On-device AI

The A19 includes a 16-core Neural Engine plus the neural accelerators in every GPU core — a feature once exclusive to Pro chips, now available here. That lets Apple Intelligence features and AI models run locally on the phone (writing tools, translation, on-device Siri) with better privacy and faster response.

Power efficiency and heat

Thanks to the 3nm (N3P) process and improved efficiency cores, the A19 delivers excellent power efficiency and longer battery life. The iPhone 17 uses graphite cooling (not the vapour chamber exclusive to the Pro models), but performance stays consistent in everyday use and typical gaming without notable thermal issues.

A19 versus A19 Pro

The short version: GPU cores (5 versus 6), RAM (8GB LPDDR5X-8533 versus 12GB LPDDR5X-9600), cache (smaller versus up to 32MB SLC), cooling (graphite versus vapour chamber on the Pro/Pro Max) and ProRes RAW (unsupported versus supported).
