Apple has launched its new phone, the iPhone 17 Pro, combining strong performance with an ideal size — an all-new design with a one-piece aluminium unibody and a new rear camera layout, the stronger Apple A19 Pro chip with a new vapour chamber, an updated 48 MP telephoto camera for better zoom, a new 18 MP selfie camera, a larger battery, and an ideally sized 6.3-inch display with higher brightness.

What stands out about the iPhone 17 Pro

The display is an LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED with the Dynamic Island design, measuring 6.3 inches at 1206 × 2622 px with 460 ppi, full Always-On Display support, a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz, HDR10 and Dolby Vision, Ceramic Shield 2 protection on the front (three times more scratch-resistant), an improved anti-reflective layer delivering twice the outdoor contrast, and brightness up to 3000 nits.

This year's design is the biggest change in years: Apple dropped the titanium of the previous iPhone 16 Pro and returned to a one-piece aluminium unibody in aerospace-grade 7000-series alloy, improving heat dissipation and freeing internal space for a bigger battery.

To be clear, the back is mostly metal (aluminium) rather than all glass, apart from a small window of Ceramic Shield (a glass-ceramic four times more crack-resistant) over the MagSafe wireless charging area only — giving the phone a distinctive two-tone look.

The camera system is triple, at 48 MP per lens: the main (F/1.6) with optical stabilisation; the telephoto (F/2.8) in the new tetraprism design with optical stabilisation, delivering true optical zoom at 4x and 8x and digital zoom up to 40x (the longest reach in iPhone history); and the ultrawide (F/2.2) with a 3D TOF depth sensor.

The new 18 MP front camera (Center Stage) uses a square sensor that widens framing automatically without rotating the phone, with dual capture (front and rear at once).

The phone records 4K video up to 120 fps, with a four-microphone Audio Mix system.

The battery is 3988 mAh on the physical-SIM version, rising to 4252 mAh on the eSIM-only version (thanks to the internal space freed by removing the SIM tray), with 40W wired charging reaching 50% in 20 minutes with a high-power charger, 25W MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse charging.

On durability, the phone carries an IP68 rating (submersion to 6 metres for 30 minutes).
