Apple has launched its new phone, the iPhone 17 — a genuine step change from previous standard iPhones. The display finally supports a variable 1–120Hz refresh rate with higher brightness and stronger protection, alongside the new Apple A19 chip with stronger performance, an all-new 18 MP selfie camera, an improved 48 MP ultrawide lens and a larger battery.

The display is an LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED measuring 6.3 inches at 1206 × 2622 px with 460 ppi, with the Dynamic Island design (not the traditional notch, which is now limited to budget models such as the iPhone 17e), full Always-On Display support, a variable 1–120Hz refresh rate for the first time in a non-Pro iPhone, HDR10 and Dolby Vision, Ceramic Shield 2 protection (three times more scratch-resistant than the previous generation) with an anti-reflective layer that cuts glare by 33%, and brightness up to 3000 nits outdoors.

For performance, the phone runs the Apple A19, built on a 3nm process with a five-core GPU equipped with Neural Accelerators for on-device generative tasks, paired with 8GB of RAM and storage from 256GB up to 512GB, with no memory card expansion.

The phone also has the customisable Action Button and the new Camera Control button for one-touch professional control over capture, zoom, aperture and exposure.

The rear camera is dual: a 48 MP main lens (F/1.6) with optical stabilisation, which also offers a 12 MP optical-quality zoom mode equivalent to 2x, and a second 48 MP lens (F/2.2) for 120-degree ultrawide shots.

This year's all-new 18 MP front camera (F/1.9), branded Center Stage, uses a square sensor for wider, more flexible group selfies, with Dual Capture recording from the front and rear cameras at once.

The phone records 4K video up to 60 fps with HDR and Dolby Vision, and a four-microphone Audio Mix system for controlling sound levels while filming.

The battery is 3692 mAh, with 40W wired fast charging that reaches 50% in just 20 minutes, 25W MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse charging.

On durability, the phone carries an IP68 water and dust rating (submersion to 6 metres for 30 minutes), with an aluminium frame and a glass back.

The phone launched globally at a base price of $799 for the 256GB version.

In Egypt it costs approximately EGP 72,000 for the 256GB version (zero-tax warranty), rising to about EGP 85,000 for the 512GB version.

In Saudi Arabia the price ranges between SAR 3,800 and 4,800 depending on storage, and in the UAE between AED 3,400 and 4,250.
