The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (SM7750-AB) is the new generation of Qualcomm's upper mid-range series, officially announced on 15 May 2025 as the direct successor to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

This is no cosmetic refresh: it carries genuine structural changes in the core design and connectivity stack, making it one of the strongest contenders in the 2026 upper mid-range — especially with phones such as the Realme 16 Pro Plus, Honor 600 and Motorola Edge 70 adopting it.

Performance: a real leap in core design

Unlike the many cosmetic "upgrades" seen in other chips, Qualcomm actually changed the core distribution from the third generation's 1+3+4 layout to a 1+4+3 layout in the fourth: a single Kryo Prime core (Cortex-A720) at 2.8 GHz, four Kryo Gold cores (Cortex-A720) at 2.4 GHz, and three Kryo Silver cores (Cortex-A520) at 1.8 GHz.

GPU: a tangible leap in gaming

The chip carries the Adreno 722 GPU, improved by roughly 30% over the previous generation according to Qualcomm, with selected Snapdragon Elite Gaming features such as Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0.

In thermal-stability tests the chip showed excellent consistency above 99% — dependable performance through long gaming sessions — although it still sits below chips such as the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 or 8s Gen 3 in the heaviest games.

AI: genuine improvement, without full transparency

Qualcomm claims a 65% improvement in AI tasks through the upgraded Hexagon NPU — enough to run image-generation models such as Stable Diffusion 1.5 locally on the device.

But as usual with Qualcomm, no specific TOPS figure is disclosed, so treat this as a feature that improves the camera and voice-assistant experience rather than a real substitute for the NPUs in flagship chips.

Memory and connectivity: the series' biggest step change

Here lies the fourth generation's real leap: official support for LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage (up from LPDDR4X/UFS 2.2 in the previous generation), plus Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 with advanced audio technologies such as aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive and Qualcomm XPAN.

That said, platform support does not mean every phone will actually use these components; some manufacturers may pick cheaper parts such as LPDDR4X or UFS 3.1 to cut costs — so always check the specifications of the specific device, not just the chip.

It suits anyone after an upper mid-priced phone with strong everyday performance and mid-weight gaming — with the standing caveat: check the actual device's specifications, because not every phone carrying it will use the platform's full capability.
