Realme has unveiled its new phone, the Realme 16 Pro 5G, to compete at the heart of the mid-range with a flat AMOLED display at a high 144Hz refresh rate, the gaming-oriented Dimensity 7300 Max chip, a huge 200 MP main rear camera and a 50 MP front camera, and a large 7000 mAh battery with 80W fast charging.
In this review from Qayimli we go through the Realme 16 Pro 5G's full specifications and its main strengths and weaknesses, to help you decide whether it deserves your money.
What stands out about the Realme 16 Pro 5G
The display is a flat 6.78-inch AMOLED at 1.5K resolution (1272 × 2772 px) with 450 ppi, a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support and AGC DT Star D+ protection, with a claimed brightness of 6500 nits (actual everyday brightness is closer to 1400 nits).
This display is one of the phone's biggest strengths against rivals at the same price.
For performance, the phone runs the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Max, built on a 4nm process with a Mali-G615 GPU — a chip aimed primarily at gaming that delivers good, acceptable performance for this class (approaching 90 fps in PUBG Mobile according to user tests), even if it was not the newest at launch.
It pairs with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, with no memory card expansion.
The rear camera is dual: a 200 MP main lens (F/1.8–1.9) with optical stabilisation — an important addition the base Realme 16 lacks — and an 8 MP ultrawide lens.
The front camera is 50 MP, and both cameras record 4K video.
The battery is 7000 mAh with 80W fast charging and reverse charging support — enough for more than a full day of typical use.
On durability, the phone carries strong IP66, IP68 and IP69/IP69K water and dust ratings, meaning submersion to about 2 metres for half an hour per the manufacturer's specifications.
Realme 16 Pro 5G cons
- The grey version has an entirely plastic back — only the gold version gets the leather-look back.
- No eSIM support in most markets (available in Europe only, depending on the model).
- The Dimensity 7300 Max performs well but is neither the newest nor the strongest at this price — Realme could have used a more recent chip.
- It is an evolution of the Realme 15 limited mainly to the camera, battery, charging and design, with no real leap in performance.
