Xiaomi has launched its latest phone, the Xiaomi 17T, to compete hard in the upper mid-range — the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra for excellent performance especially in games, a large 6500 mAh battery with 67W fast charging, a 1.5K AMOLED display with extremely slim bezels, and this year's headline: a Leica-tuned camera system with an all-new true 5x telephoto lens, a first for this tier of the T series.

What stands out about the Xiaomi 17T

The display is a flat 6.59-inch AMOLED at 1.5K resolution (1268 × 2756 px) with 460 ppi, a 120Hz refresh rate, high brightness up to 3500 nits, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection and extremely slim bezels of just 1.5mm.

For performance, the phone runs the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra, built on a 4nm process with an all-big-core architecture and a Mali-G720 MC8 GPU — delivering very strong performance in demanding games with notable thermal stability thanks to Xiaomi's 3D IceLoop cooling, and AnTuTu scores above 2 million points according to Xiaomi.

It pairs with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage, with no memory card expansion.

The biggest leap this year is the camera: a 50 MP main lens (Light Fusion 800 sensor at 1/1.55 inch, F/1.7) with optical stabilisation, working alongside an all-new true 50 MP telephoto lens (F/3.0) delivering real optical zoom up to 5x (115mm equivalent) with AI digital zoom up to 120x — the first time this tier of the T series gets a true telephoto lens of this strength instead of the previous generation's 2x hybrid lens.

The set is completed by a third 12 MP lens for 120-degree ultrawide shots.

The front camera is 32 MP and supports autofocus, per Xiaomi's official specifications.

The phone records 4K video up to 60 fps in HDR10+, with professional LOG recording support.

The battery is 6500 mAh with 67W wired fast charging, but no wireless charging.

On durability, the phone carries an IP68 rating (submersion to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes).

It also has stereo speakers with a high-quality haptic motor, and a true (not software-based) proximity sensor for calls — an addition that improves how accurately the phone detects your ear near the screen during calls.

• Changing the aspect ratio in 50 MP mode drops the resolution to only about 12.5 MP.

The phone launched officially in Egypt at around EGP 36,000 for the 256GB / 12GB RAM version, with the 512GB version rising to about EGP 38,000 (local warranty).

In Saudi Arabia the price ranges between SAR 2,100 and 2,600 depending on storage, and in the UAE between AED 1,850 and 2,400.
