Apple has launched its new phone, the iPhone Air, with a revolutionary design that makes it the thinnest and lightest phone Apple has ever made — just 5.6mm thick and 165 g — with a titanium frame, a large 6.5-inch display with a fast variable refresh rate up to 120Hz and high brightness, Apple's most powerful current chip, the A19 Pro, and a new 18 MP selfie camera with a square sensor.

Here at Qayimli are all the iPhone Air's specifications in detail, with its main strengths and weaknesses, so you can decide whether it deserves your money.

What stands out about the iPhone Air

The display is an LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED with the Dynamic Island design (not the traditional notch), measuring 6.5 inches at 1260 × 2736 px with 460 ppi, full Always-On Display support, a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, Ceramic Shield 2 protection and brightness up to 3000 nits.

The side frame is Grade 5 titanium, 80% recycled — giving the phone very strong durability despite its extreme thinness, according to Apple's internal testing.

For performance, the phone runs the Apple A19 Pro, built on a 3nm process (the same chip as the iPhone 17 Pro) with a five-core GPU equipped with AI accelerators and hardware ray tracing, paired with 12GB of RAM (not 8GB as sometimes claimed) and storage from 256GB up to 1TB, with no memory card expansion.

The phone also carries Apple's own C1X modem and N1 networking chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and the Thread protocol — part of Apple's push to reduce reliance on external chip suppliers.

The rear camera is a single 48 MP lens (F/1.6) with optical stabilisation and a sapphire crystal lens cover, offering a 12 MP optical-quality zoom mode equivalent to 2x and digital zoom up to 10x.

The front camera is 18 MP (F/1.9) with a square sensor that widens the field of view automatically for panoramic or group shots without rotating the phone.

The phone records 4K video up to 60 fps, with a four-microphone Audio Mix system.

The battery is 3149 mAh, with 20W wired charging, 20W MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse charging.

On durability, the phone carries an IP68 rating (submersion to 6 metres for 30 minutes).

Worth noting: in June 2026 Apple released a software update that fixed a battery-drain issue affecting some iPhone 17 and iPhone Air users right after launch.

iPhone Air cons

  • No ultrawide camera — a single rear lens only.
  • You'll need to buy the charging brick or earphones separately; neither comes in the box.
  • No stereo sound — a single mono speaker only.
  • The 3149 mAh battery is the smallest in the series because of the extreme thinness, and may not last a full day for heavy users.
  • No physical Nano SIM support — it relies entirely on two eSIMs.
  • A relatively high price; for a small difference you can get the iPhone 17 Pro with stronger camera and battery specifications.

iPhone Air pros

  • The thinnest and lightest phone Apple has ever made, and the only one in the new series with a titanium frame — very durable despite the thinness, per Apple's tests.
  • A single rear camera that still performs strongly, as expected from Apple, with a sapphire lens cover for extra protection.
  • A new selfie lens with a square sensor for wide panoramic and group shots without rotating the phone.
  • Very strong performance from Apple's flagship A19 Pro — the same chip as the iPhone 17 Pro.
  • A distinctive display: large, bright, with a variable 120Hz refresh rate, an anti-reflective layer and Dynamic Island.
  • 12GB of RAM — the most in the entire iPhone 17 series, including the standard model.
  • Apple's in-house connectivity chips (C1X and N1) supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.

What's in the iPhone Air box

The box includes: the phone, a USB Type-C cable, a SIM ejector tool and a user guide — with no charging brick or earphones included.

iPhone Air price

The phone launched globally at a base price of $999–1,000 for the 256GB version.

In Egypt it costs approximately EGP 77,000 for the 256GB version (zero-tax warranty), rising to about EGP 95,000 for the 512GB version.

In Saudi Arabia the price ranges between SAR 4,700 and 6,700 depending on storage, and in the UAE between AED 4,300 and 6,000.

Note that Apple product prices can shift with the local dealer, warranty type and current offers, so check the actual price at your local store when buying.

Frequently asked questions

Does the iPhone Air have a notch or Dynamic Island?
It uses Dynamic Island rather than the traditional notch, like the rest of the iPhone 17 line apart from the budget iPhone 17e.
How much RAM does the iPhone Air have?
12GB across all storage variants — the most in the entire iPhone 17 line, including the standard and Pro models.
Does the iPhone Air take a physical Nano SIM?
No. It is eSIM-only with no physical SIM support — the first iPhone in major global markets to go fully down that path.
Does the iPhone Air have stereo sound?
No. Its extreme thinness leaves room for a single mono speaker, unlike the rest of the iPhone 17 line.
How does the iPhone Air's chip compare with the iPhone 17 Pro's?
Both use the same Apple A19 Pro, but the iPhone 17 Pro adds vapour-chamber cooling that sustains performance longer under heavy load — something the iPhone Air lacks because of its extreme thinness.

Quick verdict

Built for buyers who put design and lightness first, with performance strong enough to match the Pro model. If you need a multi-lens camera or long battery life under heavy use, the iPhone 17 Pro is a better fit for a small price difference.
